Thomas E. Robertson, Jr. was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 21, 1943, and moved to Fort Smith in 1944. He received his bachelors degree in 1966 and his law degree in 1969 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. His areas of practice include Bankruptcy Law, for both creditors and debtors, as well as serving as a Trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court since 1979; Commercial Law; Real Estate, Civil Litigation, Insurance Defense, and Probate Law. He is a member of the Arkansas and Sebastian County Bar Associations, as well as the Debtor-Creditor Bar of Central Arkansas. In addition, he is the Past President (1982-83) of the Sebastian County Bar Association.
Mr. Robertson’s practice is varied, involving primarily commercial work for creditors and insurance companies, as well as serving as a Bankruptcy Trustee. Mr. Robertson served as Trustee of Farmers Co-Op of Arkansas and Oklahoma, Inc., after being appointed by the Bankruptcy Court. As Trustee, he filed a lawsuit against over fifty defendants, resulting in settlements and verdicts of over $9 million, after trial in the United States District Court, several appeals to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and two appeals to the United States Supreme Court. See Reves v. Ernst & Young, 502 U.S. 1090, 112 S.Ct. 1159, 117 L.Ed.2d 407; Reves v. Ernst & Young, 507 U.S. 170, 113 S.Ct. 1163, 122 L.Ed.2d 525.
Mr. Robertson’s last-reported case involving policy defenses on behalf of the insurance company resulted in a Declaratory Judgment in favor of the insurance company. See AIG Centennial Ins. Co. v. Fraley-Landers, 450 F.3d 761.
Although the firm name has changed over the years, Mr. Robertson has been with the same firm since his graduation in 1969. He and his wife, Nancy, after marrying in 1966, have three daughters and eight grandchildren. Nancy is a retired teacher of the Fort Smith Public School System and is an avid rose grower, while Mr. Robertson is an even more avid fly fisherman.
